Leading with Purpose: Ivy Elwell’s Rise in Missouri FFA
By: Bella Baker –
In a world full of ordinary paths, Ivy Elwell’s journey into agriculture stands out. From #Agri-Ready Pettis County, known for cultivating leadership, she didn’t grow up dreaming of blue jackets or livestock shows. Agriculture found her in the most unexpected way: through horseback riding lessons her parents signed her and her sister up for on a whim.
That simple decision sparked a passion that would shape her future. “I didn’t choose agriculture; agriculture found me,” Ivy says. “Agriculture is the backbone of our world, and I am proud to fight for the industry that built me and countless others.” Now, as the 2025–2026 Missouri FFA State President, Ivy is using her unique story to connect with students across the state. She is proof that no matter where you start, agriculture has a place for everyone.
Ivy’s early involvement in showing quarter horses and Berkshire market hogs helped her build a foundation in the agricultural lifestyle. She later started her own business, “The Crafty Camel,” specializing in succulents and cacti, blending entrepreneurship with her love of plants. She also spent time volunteering at the La Monte Food Pantry and the Pettis County Mobile Food Pantry, where her desire to serve others grew along with her understanding of her community’s needs.
A turning point in Ivy’s FFA story came when past National FFA officer, Miriam Hoffman, visited her chapter and encouraged students to set personal goals. Ivy was inspired to serve as a state or national officer. Her first attempt at a state position didn’t go as planned, but rather than being discouraged, she saw the setback as an opportunity to grow. It became a reflection of her core belief: failure is not final. With renewed focus and determination, she worked harder, learned more, and has now reached her goal of becoming Missouri FFA’s President.
Looking toward the future of agriculture, Ivy emphasizes the importance of education and truth. “Farmers and students can support the future of agriculture in many ways. The biggest support is to help stop misinformation. I love seeing all the agriculture-related content on social media that helps combat these issues.”
Ivy Elwell’s story is one of perseverance and a passion for agriculture. From her early days in the show ring to the state officer team, her mission remains clear: to protect, uplift, and advance the industry that shaped her life.
