Posted:  Jan 06, 2026

Missouri Farmers Care has recognized Christian County as an Agri-Ready Designated County, marking a milestone in the county’s ongoing commitment to strengthening agriculture and supporting those who make it thrive. The designation celebrates counties that create a positive environment for agricultural growth, encourage economic development, and look to grow the legacy of Missouri’s number one industry.

From rolling pastures and family farms to bustling communities and growing businesses, Christian County has long balanced progress with its proud agricultural roots. The designation holds both a recognition of the past and a promise for the future.

Agriculture has always been a cornerstone of Christian County, from multi-generation cattle operations and hay farms to newer ventures in agri-tourism. The county’s farmers and ranchers and agribusinesses carry a spirit of stewardship, innovation, and resilience that define Missouri agriculture. County leaders understand the importance of protecting these agricultural strengths while planning for growth that benefits the entire county.

“Christian County is proud to partner with Missouri Farmers Care and become an Agri-Ready Designated County. Missouri Farmers Care’s partnerships with outstanding agricultural organizations are vital to supporting Missouri agriculture,” says Christian County Presiding Commissioner Lynn Morris.

“As Presiding Commissioner, I recognize the critical role that farming and agriculture play in driving our local economy,” continued Commissioner Morris. “We are honored to join forces with such a strong coalition dedicated to advancing Missouri’s farmers and promoting the state’s economic interests in agriculture. Together, we look forward to educating our communities about where their food comes from and how it is raised, strengthening the connection between agriculture and everyday life.”

With Agri-Ready Designation, that spirit will continue to grow through new partnerships as well as opportunities for local youth to explore agricultural careers. Local ag leaders and advocates see promising potential in what this designation will unlock.

“As someone born and raised in southwest Missouri, and now proudly residing in Christian County, I am deeply inspired by our county leaders’ commitment to agriculture,” says Heather Eberlin, Professional Development Specialist with the University of Missouri’s Agricultural Education & Leadership program. “Their decision to partner with Missouri Farmers Care and designate Christian County as Agri-Ready is more than symbolic, it’s a bold investment in our future. Agricultural literacy and advocacy aren’t just important, they’re foundational. They ensure that the next generation of Christian County youth not only understands the value of agriculture but sees a thriving future for themselves in it, right here at home. By championing these efforts, we’re cultivating more than crops, we’re cultivating opportunity, resilience, and community.”

With agriculture contributing $93.7 billion annually to the state’s economy, Agri-Ready Designated Counties like Christian play a vital role in building bridges between rural and urban Missouri. Together, they help tell the story of how agriculture touches every corner of our state.

Producers across Christian County share this sense of excitement, not just for what the designation means today, but for how it supports the next generation of farmers and ranchers. Lauren Brown of Gilbert Cattle Company sees the designation as an important commitment to strengthening local food production and supporting those who steward the land.

“It is exciting to see Christian County showcase its long-term support for agricultural production by becoming an Agri-Ready Designated County,” says Lauren Brown of Gilbert Cattle Company. “Protecting agricultural production at the county level is vital for creating strong communities and reliable local food production. Being involved in agriculture is all about being a steward of the land and working to feed our communities and world, which is something we are honored to be a part of.”

The designation sets the stage for strategic growth, signaling that Christian County is ready to welcome new partnerships and strengthen its agricultural economy. As an Agri-Ready Designated County, Christian County will join a statewide network of counties dedicated to advancing rural vitality, supporting agribusiness, and ensuring the continued success of Missouri’s farming families.

“Our family is blessed to raise cattle and horses in the Ozark Mountains of Christian County,” continued Lauren Brown. “As a young producer planning on continuing my family’s ranch, I am thankful to be in a county that recognizes the essential role agriculture plays in creating a strong local economy. There’s no better way of life or business to be in than agriculture.”
