JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Pulaski County, Missouri has been granted Agri-Ready Designation status by Missouri Farmers Care (MFC) and joins 72 other counties in the state with this recognition. This designation was achieved on Thursday, August 1 following a unanimous vote of the Pulaski County Commission. Agri-Ready Designation signifies Pulaski County’s support of agricultural development, economic growth, and agricultural literacy programs offered through MFC, a coalition of agriculture groups and businesses. Through the Agri-Ready Designation program, MFC identifies and promotes counties in Missouri that create an environment supportive to agriculture, Missouri’s largest industry.

“Pulaski County has several century family farms, opportunity for agricultural growth, and will always support agriculture,” said Gene Newkirk, Presiding Commissioner. “We are happy to receive Agri-Ready County Designation and celebrate no restrictions on agriculture.”

Through the Agri-Ready Designation program, MFC partners with county leaders to advance local agricultural enterprises, promote the county as a prime location for business, and enhance workforce readiness for agricultural careers. In addition, MFC partners with local FFA leaders to promote the Agriculture On the Move program in third grade classrooms. Through the partnership, student leaders will present ten hours of education on agricultural topics such as plant science and animal science among more.

“Thank you to Missouri Farmers Care, the Pulaski County Commission, the Phelps County Commission, and other local community leaders,” said Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe, a first-generation farmer in Pulaski County. “Your partnership to bring about this designation demonstrates support for Missouri’s farm families and our state’s number one industry, agriculture.”

According to the Missouri Department of Agriculture’s 2021 Study of Missouri Agriculture and Forestry, the agriculture industry in Pulaski County generated more than $30 million in economic output. This activity was led by cattle production, food processing, and forestry. Over 450 agricultural related jobs produce more than $5.3 million in household income in the county.

“Pulaski County leaders are looking forward to partnering with Missouri Farmers Care and taking a stand for agriculture in our county,” said Andy Helms Western District Commissioner.

Counties wishing to apply for designation must meet program requirements, including no ordinances regulating agriculture in conflict with state law and support of agriculture stewardship, growth, and opportunities. After the application is received by Missouri Farmers Care affirms compliance with program guidelines prior to awarding and announcing designation.

The Agri-Ready program was launched in 2015 as a partnership between Missouri’s counties and Missouri Farmers Care. To learn more about Missouri Farmers Care and the Agri-County Designation program, visit mofarmerscare.com or contact info@mofarmerscare.com.
