Hogs for Hunger_2021_Final-01

One in five Missouri children is food insecure, facing uncertainty as to where their next meal may come from. Food insecurity in childhood is associated with poor academic performance, developmental delays and chronic illness. This year through Hogs for Hunger, Missouri pig farmers and 4-H and FFA swine exhibitors have an opportunity to change the lives of neighbors, friends and classmates by contributing pigs and pork to address hunger in their communities.

Donate Your Pig to Hogs For Hunger

There are two paths for Missouri pig farmers and swine exhibitors to give this summer through the Drive to Feed Kids Hogs for Hunger. Participants can choose to participate locally or at the Missouri State Fair.  Access the Hogs for Hunger contribution checklist which gives you a step-by-step guide on how to participate: Click Here. If you are interested in contributing pork, fill out the letter of commitment below.

Local Option

Pig farmers and Missouri 4-H and FFA swine exhibitors can donate pigs or pork locally. Through this option, farmers or exhibitors book processing spots at USDA or state-inspected lockers, coordinate and deliver the pork to the Feeding Missouri food pantry of choice.

Upon delivery, the invoice for processing and the receipt of donation from the food pantry can be submitted to info@mofarmerscare.com. The Missouri Farmers Care Foundation will reimburse farmers and exhibitors $1 per pound for processing costs. Indicate the number of pounds you intend to give in the commitment letter below.

Missouri State Fair Option

In partnership with the Missouri State Fair Foundation, up to 50 pigs will be accepted at the Missouri State Fair. Feeding Missouri will pay Missouri 4-H and FFA exhibitors $0.60 per pound live weight on market hogs committed to the Hogs for Hunger campaign. Missouri 4-H and FFA members must indicate their willingness to participate by completing the letter of commitment below by August 5. Pigs will be released early on Saturday, August 14, processed at Kempf's Custom Butchering, and donated to The Foodbank for Central and Northeast Missouri, which serves 32 Missouri counties.  All processing costs will be covered by the Missouri Farmers Care Foundation and partners.

To donate your pig, complete the letter of commitment below by August 5.

To complete the local donation, pig farmers and exhibitors should coordinate and deliver pork to the Feeding Missouri food bank or food pantry of your choice. Partnering food banks can be found at: https://feedingmissouri.org/get-help/your-fb/.

If you are contributing a whole pig at the Missouri State Fair, you may be able to deduct the difference between the amount Feeding Missouri compensated you and the fair market value of the pig. Please check with your tax professional for advice on claiming this donation as a tax deduction.
